You Had Me At Merlot

Do you often find yourself in the wine aisle of LCBO debating between the bottle with the cutest label versus the one with the higher alcohol content? Believe me, I used to be the same.

I figured out pretty quickly in my adult life (am I an adult???) that you kind of need the most basic knowledge of wine and the different varieties of grapes to at least seem like you have your life together.

Don't get me wrong, if I could show up to every party or event with a case of beer for the host I would. But this is downtown Toronto and you best believe I'm not hauling a six pack of tall boys across town. This is where wine comes in.

It's relatively light, fits in my purse, and comes off kind of classy when I present it to my friends/family as a thoughtful gift. Sidenote: I usually grab a bottle for around $15 but they always think I spent more (suckers).

Anywho, the one thing I have learned is not every wine is the same. Actually, most of them are entirely different. So knowing the difference between a dry Cabernet Sauvignon and a sweet Shiraz Cabernet will be super helpful when buying your picky mother a bottle for Christmas.

Check out my next blog post for a complete run down on red red wine and what you need to know when it comes to pairing those bad boys with food.

Cheers!
